For the 26th year, Redding East Rotary’s Ducky Derby entertained visitors at Caldwell Park. There were 35,985 ducks adopted that raced down the 200 yard stretch of the Sacramento River from under the Diestlehorst Bridge to the awaiting nets. Crowds lined the banks to cheer on their ducks, then returned to the music stage and the North Valley Art League Art’s & Craft Faire to hear the winner’s announced.

The Lamp Family won the grand prize of Shasta Marina Houseboat Trip, plus $500 cash from Umpqua Bank. Ted Methvin Jr. won the Giant Giants Weekend provided courtesy of Interwest Insurance.   Rikki Zepponi will be sporting a new Topaz jewelry set from Devon’s Jewlers and Kim Gomes will be able to proudly display Charlie Clinkenbeard’s beautiful Burlwood Bowl!

We are pleased to announce that it appears that we will again be able to return 100% to the local students who adopted out these ducks. The Rotary Foundation Against Substance Abuse has raised over $4 million since inception.   These funds are used for substance abuse prevention and youth development programs throughout the North State Area.

“The community support for this event shows the commitment to our youth.   In Kind Services and cash donations cover all the expenses of the race, which allows the Redding East Rotary to return these funds to the students. It is a proud partnership between the adults and youth of our community and further demonstrates what a wonderful and generous community we have here”, said Marge Beck, Race Chairman.
